Refrained Reflections: A Glimpse of the Veiled Soul

This work explores concealment and revelation. Wearing a rhinestone-inlaid hollow mask and a reflective dress, I embody self-protection and self-exposure. The mask reflects what we hide, yet my uncovered eyes—windows to the soul—remain unshielded, a testament to truths we cannot escape.

Influenced by 5 Rhythms Dance, this performance evolved organically, with light and shadow shaping the imagery. A deeper narrative emerged—expanding beyond reflection into transformation and identity.

Alternating between black and white and color, the images mirror transformation—some stark and defined, others dissolving into abstraction, an alchemical process of self-revelation.

More than photography, this is performance art of identity and exposure. I invite viewers to reflect on the masks we wear—and the light that finds its way through.

“May we rise above and transcend beyond the tangled threads of our human nature—only after we have embraced and made peace with every strand.”
